We have been very lucky with sleep - on the most part but not as lucky as my own parents who were blessed with myself - I slept 12 hours a night from six weeks all on my own!! But then I didn't walk until 20 months and never crawled. All these parenting tomes and advice from well-meaning other people make parenthood a minefield of "is this right?" "am I doing the right thing?".
The only thing that has got me through (& we had 2 and half months of severe acid reflux to contend with) is the wise words of my Granny - "The only problem with the baby [parenting] books is that the baby hasn't read them!"
great post, KirstyKirstynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5841090768372441276.post-53869794321954906842010-05-26T02:47:42.053-07:002010-05-26T02:47:42.053-07:00Hi All,

I can't say that sleep training is a bad thing and wouldn't work for many other people, we just had a hard time with it, and really tried.

I hope that you do not become biased against trying it, in other words, should you need to. We just found it yet another frustration on top of so many when we had Stella.

--DaveDavid Serchukhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04670170919579450408noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5841090768372441276.post-29028567875235668522010-05-25T07:34:54.325-07:002010-05-25T07:34:54.325-07:00I loved this and it definitely applies to more tha...I loved this and it definitely applies to more than just sleeping - though I hate to break the news to you Alaina - we had a child clearly partial to sleeping and combined with sleep training at 12 weeks, we've been able to put her down awake in her crib, kiss and walk away without a problem since she was 3 months old so no, these people aren't liars - just bloody lucky (although to be fair the sleep training was fast but uber painful to go through)

what we got in sleeping, we suffer in tantrums.

Thanks for a great post!Cordelia aka Multilingual Mamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16909862232265377523noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5841090768372441276.post-30862013378646953942010-05-24T07:53:45.788-07:002010-05-24T07:53:45.788-07:00I wonder to myself all of the time, what did I thi...I wonder to myself all of the time, what did I think it was going to be like to put a child to bed? I guess I thought that I was plop her down, kiss her goodnight, and walk out of the room. (Some people claim that they do this, but I think some people are liars.) I did not think I would have to read 3+ stories, lay down next to her for 60 minutes while she plays with my hair with soft music on in the background. No. I could not have figured for that.

And we used that Mike Tyson quote when describing the "birthing plan" we had, and threw out the minute the first labor pain hit.
