I Have Been Officially Welcomed To Louisville!

I will keep this one short.

Today I posted on The Huffington Post about how Louisville stacks up versus New York. (Longtime blog readers will have read this piece here first. Okay, I am re-purposing my own writing, but if I can't who can?)

I had one small quip in there about how the food in NYC is better than in Louisville. And I don't think that is a hard argument to make. Still, one fairly prominent Louisville blog made a point of officially welcoming me to Louisville, and then explaining to me that there are many, many fine dining establishments in this fair city that I should know about and consider. It's not all Chik-Fil-A! (Which I almost certainly just misspelled.)

Now I know. But, my gosh, for reals? Who gets welcomed to a city this way?

And it's funny, because in the original HuffPo piece I wrote about how here people are almost too friendly. I guess I was onto something. But I will take it any day!

Oh, and here is the welcoming blog entry.

How funny. I'm a transplant to Louisville from NYC X4 years and was going to make the same comment that the food bloggers did. Also, on an overly-friendly note, I was going to offer you a tour of some places you might have missed so far. I live in a sweet (read, extremely out of my price range if I were living in New York) downtown condo with plenty of walkable options, and a very small-neighborhood feel to our building. My wife and I walk and take a (very convenient) bus to work. We'd love to show you what else is available.

Hi Rich,
Thanks for the comment. I think my original post may have been a little bit glib, but I was glib to NYC too. Believe me, I very much look forward to getting to know the food choices of my new city.

Are you originally from the area?

I also am excited to learn more about other neighborhoods and areas as I am still getting acquainted with the entire city!

As a transplant from Chicago more years ago than I care to count, I wanted to welcome you as well and say that I enjoyed the Huff piece. When we first arrived as a couple, all intentions were to spend a few interesting years and move on. 2 daughters and 3 dogs later, we're still here and have found it to be an extremely livable city (and by that comment I mean affordable and enjoyable.) However I will say the place has changed dramatically in those years; dining options are so much better, ditto entertainment, and there is less cigarette smoke per square foot by a huge margin.

Don't let anyone tell you you're in the midwest however; I've heard that claim from the natives but we are indeed in the south. Enjoy and I hope you discover the terrific and TARC-accessible neighborhoods; much of L'ville is very defined by distinct neighborhood-ness. Chris

Hi Chris,
Thank you for this warm welcome! I do have a sense that TARC is kind of sparse in our region. Most stops don't seem to have benches or anything. I've even seen some older folks kind of squatting on the side of the road waiting for the bus.

I very much hope we enjoy L-Ville as a couple and as a family. After all, it was quite a trip getting here. Take care!
